In tech news that nearly made me fall out of my chair today, Osmo… the only product that was only available for iOS that I would still talk about, because it was so awesome will soon be available for Amazon Fire Tablets!!
First I have to say that this pairing makes the most sense out of all of the tablet manufacturers available. Fire tablets are affordable and have great parental controls, which make them a perfect choice for kids. Now kids can use these tablets to interact with the Osmo system, which is one of the best tech learning tools currently available.
The new Osmo Genius Kit for Fire Tablets is going to be compatible with current generation Fire 7, Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets, and is available to preorder for $ 99.99 starting on Sept. 18. The kit is set to ship in November (just in time for the holidays!)
The kit appears to come with the numbers and letters sets and the tangram kit, and storage containers for all of the parts. It should be compatible with the other kits already available, like the coding kit and the Super Studio, but it is not clear if it actually is yet. I would assume it will be.
There are 5 games you can play right off the bat with just this set though. The Words game allows you to guess and spell words with the lettered tiles. Similarly, Numbers will help kids with math and counting. Masterpiece is like tracing, but much easier. It will display an image you choose on the tablet and helps you draw the image on your paper below. Newton is a great app that can teach kids about physics and the properties of objects. It can even help them with fine motor skills as they practice hitting targets. Finally, Tangram is a great puzzle app where your children can put the tangrams together into various shapes.
I have seriously been waiting for Osmo to branch out to other operating systems for SO long, and I’m so excited that they partnered with Amazon to make it happen. This is going to be the combo to get (Fire Tablet + Osmo Genius Kit) for the holidays this year!
