Huge news from our favorite build-your-own PC for kids company, Kano! The company just announced a brand new licensed Harry Potter wand that kids (and a few adults I know) can design, put together and code! I actually had a chance to check out the kit during an NDA session with the CEO of Kano during CES, and I have literally been DYING to tell someone about it for the last 7 months!

According to the company, “The build-it-yourself wireless wand shows fans of all ages how to code and create, as you flick and swish through more than 70 challenges inspired by the Wizarding World. The wand works with software and a connected app to capture movements and turn them into rich effects. It lets you make serpents slither, toads transfigure, fires flow, feathers float, goblets duplicate, Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans enlarge, and more.”

As with all Kano products, the Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit will come with an easy to read book that explains the technology you are assembling. These books are practically my son’s favorite part of the products. He will bring the book places where we won’t let him bring his Kano products (he has them all, many of which we purchased ourselves)

You can pre-order the Wand Kit now for $ 99, but the product will not ship until October 1st.

The app itself will feature 6 Wizarding World settings that have their own unique challenges. These challenges are teaching coding concepts all along the way, and introduce basic concepts of real-world programming. The Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit also comes with a poster of some of the most used spells in the Harry Potter world so you can try your hand at them.

If you already have the Computer Coding Kit, you will have access to unique challenges just for that platform, but you will also be able to use the wand with an iOS, Android, Windows or Mac device.
