Winner of the 2016 Impact Award from UNC-Chapel Hill, Silhouettes of Service, a 75-minute solo docu-drama theatre piece created and performed by Gregory DeCandia, will be presented at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh.
Fresh from its acclaimed workshop run directed by Joseph Megel in UNC’s festival Veterans and Their Families, Silhouettes of Service is derived verbatim from 26 interviews of soldiers from World War II to the present, and it includes accounts from NC Vietnam Vets Inc., Fort Bragg and UNC’s ROTC program.
In his review of the production on Drama Circle, Mark Perry states, "In crisp portraits of 18 soldiers, Silhouettes of Service beautifully depicts the diversity of the military." Perry, a lecturer at UNC-Chapel Hill, is resident dramaturge for Playmakers Repertory Company.
Perry describes the docudrama as "a work fashioned not simply of words but of understanding and care, of truth-seeking and truth-telling, of a long-overdue honoring." These performances are the last opportunity to see Silhouettes of Service in N.C. before its engagements in New York City and Oklahoma City. The show will take place Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the North Carolina Museum of History. More information about times and locations are listed below and at the website.
