Hughie, by Eugene O’Neill: Small-time gangster Erie Smith tells the tale of his friendship with the late Hughie to his unwilling audience, the night clerk at his residential hotel. Like many of O’Neill’s plays, Hughie explores the ideas of alienation, loneliness and the need for a human connection. Unlike many of his other plays, it runs a taut sixty minutes, yet it covers as much emotional ground as many of his longer works. Directed by Andy Hayworth.
