The opening reception for the "Divided by Decades – Bound by Tradition" exhibit will be 4-6pm, Feb. 25. The artists will be having a talk at 5:15pm.

In honor of Meredith College’s 125th anniversary, artist Janet Link (’89) and Sherry di Fillippo (’11) will be showcasing select pieces of art in oil and graphite. The title of the exhibit, "Divided by Decades – Bound By Tradition," comes from the relationship between not only Link and di Fillippo, but the relationship between the artists and the traditional thought processes. Both artists draw their inspirations from nature and capture the atmosphere of the moment. These techniques can be related to ‘disegno’ and ‘sfumato,’ two traditional methods of painting used by past iconic masters.
Link states, "My studio practice is driven by an exploration of the relationship between people and objects. I am interested in objects, precious and mundane, for their potential as vessels for memory and meaning." Di Filippo states, "Sometimes I still take on thematic projects and become concerned with representing my emotions and experiences through personal mythology…sometimes I feel most comfortable and at peace while working traditionally with what I see around me and trying to pull beauty out of visual information that I take in." Their works are currently displayed in the Cate Center First Floor Lobby on Meredith’s campus through Mar. 24, 2016.
