A Tale of Two Cities: African American Walking Tour

Pope House Museum Program Manager Joshua Trower will lead a walking tour to fifteen sites key to Raleigh’s African American past. Hear the stories of African American contributions to peace, war, religion, education, medicine, civil rights and government in Raleigh.

After the morning walking tour, at 1pm, do not miss special guest Dr. Gregory S. Taylor discussing his newest publication N.C. State Prison at the COR Museum. The book from Arcadia Publishing features Raleigh’s Central Prison, which inmates began construction of in 1870. Images from N.C.’s early prisons, chain gangs and penal system will be on display for this captivating talk.
